Day Camp Leader (Seasonal)

The Town of Blackfalds is accepting applications for Seasonal Day Camp Leaders.
Day Camp Leaders are responsible for ensuring a safe, caring, and successful environment for participants involved in the Camp Curious program during the summer months. Leaders provide the opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational, cultural, and educational programs. Leaders assist in the implementation and facilitation of the day camp experience.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be actively engaged in the safety, well-being, and development of the children in the program. This also includes attending to their physical, social, and emotional needs in a positive manner.
- Supervising children ages 3-11 as part of a team while implementing the camp plan as developed by the Children’s Services Programmer.
- Along with other staff ensuring appropriate use of the facility by guests and enforcing facility guidelines, rules, and ratios.
- Supervision of children during free swim in outdoor aquatic environments and during off-site field trips.
- Encouraging parent evaluation of the day camp experience.
- Ensure day camp practices are followed.
- Encouraging children’s social, physical, and emotional development in a positive manner.
- Preparing and maintaining program equipment, supplies and program space.
- Handle routine correspondence such as incident reports as required.
- Follow and participate in all safety practices and provincial legislation.
- Follow a positive and proactive guest services philosophy throughout the department.
- Performing other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must believe all children are capable of success.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and excellent guest service.
- Proven ability to deal directly with other staff and guests in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Ability to relate well with children of all ages.
- Efficient and effective communication, interpersonal, and listening skills with the ability to ask questions.
- Strong teamwork and cooperation skills.
- Strong general computer skills with good familiarity with Microsoft Office and Outlook..
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively without constant direct supervision.
- Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the program(s) and/or participants.
- Knowledge of developmental abilities and age-appropriate activities.
Educational and Experience:
- Grade 12 or college/university student currently enrolled in Recreation, Education, Early Childhood Development, Physical Education
Additional Requirements:
- Intermediate First Aid with CPR “C” and AED
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Valid Driver’s License with current Driver’s Abstract
- Child Intervention Record Check
The hours of work are 40 hours per week.
The starting hourly wage is $17.06 / hour.
