The Town of Blackfalds is seeking an enthusiastic and community‑minded Seasonal Bylaw Officer to join our Protective Services team for the summer of 2026.
This position is an excellent opportunity for students currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, post‑secondary programs in law enforcement, criminal justice or related fields. Gain valuable hands‑on experience while supporting community safety and education.
The Seasonal Bylaw Officer assists in enforcing municipal bylaws, patrolling community spaces, responding to complaints, and supporting public education. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy outdoor work, community interaction, and gaining practical municipal enforcement experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas to monitor compliance with Town bylaws (parks & trails, noise, parking, property maintenance, waste management, etc.).
- Build positive relationships with youth and the general public.
- Respond to inquiries and complaints; educate residents on bylaws and compliance procedures.
- Identify and report vandalism, graffiti, hazards, or property damage.
- Maintain accurate daily patrol notes and complete incident reports.
- Support park cleanliness by arranging removal of litter or graffiti when required.
- Work collaboratively with other Town departments.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong judgment, communication skills, and interpersonal abilities.
- Good understanding of basic law enforcement practices and municipal/provincial regulations.
- Comfortable using technology (mobile devices, computers).
- Ability to work independently and remain calm in challenging situations.
- Physically capable of performing extended outdoor patrols.
Education & Experience
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a similar field.
- Previous experience in enforcement or compliance roles is an asset.
Additional Requirements
- Standard First Aid with CPR‑C and AED certification.
- Valid Driver’s Licence with a current Driver’s Abstract.
- RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an enhanced RCMP security clearance.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Mandatory wearing of Town‑issued uniform and ballistic vest.
Position Details
- Term: May 2026 – August 28, 2026
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Hourly Wage: $23.24 – $26.02
