As a Parks Laborer, you’ll be an essential part of the crew that keeps Blackfalds beautiful. From maintaining lush green spaces and vibrant playgrounds to ensuring our sports fields, trails, and public areas are safe and welcoming, your work will directly impact the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of manual and physical tasks to maintain municipal parks, playgrounds, sports fields, tennis courts, boulevards, trails, and open spaces.
- Operate a range of trucks, tools, and equipment used in park operations.
- Assist with the upkeep of public facilities and amenities to ensure safety, cleanliness, and functionality.
- Contribute to turf management, helping with mowing, trimming, fertilizing, seeding, watering, and general lawn care to maintain healthy and attractive green spaces.

Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
- Experience or interest in outdoor recreation, landscaping, or parks maintenance is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with operating and maintaining equipment such as tractors, skid steers, utility vehicles, large-area mowers, and trailers is considered an asset.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and provide a current Driver’s Abstract.
- Hold valid Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- Must be able to provide an RCMP Criminal Record Check; a Vulnerable Sector Check may also be required.
- Ability to obtain WHMIS certification.
Physical Demands:
- Physically fit and able to lift to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable performing repetitive physical tasks such as bending, squatting, standing, kneeling, walking, and climbing for extended periods.
- Capable of performing outdoor maintenance and custodial duties, including raking, digging, sweeping, planting, trimming, mowing, pruning, weeding, and litter removal.
Work Environment:
- Expect extensive walking and physical labor in a variety of outdoor settings.
- Work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Operate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with varying noise levels depending on equipment and location.
- Safely operate a wide range of equipment, including half-ton trucks, dump trucks, skid steers, toolcats, utility vehicles, mowers, trimmers, and power/hand tools.
- Interact with the public regularly; must be prepared to handle occasional challenging customer interactions with professionalism and courtesy.
Hours & Compensation:
- Duration: July 2025 to February 27, 2026 (8-month term)
- Work Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly, offering a consistent and balanced work routine.
- Starting Wage: Competitive hourly rate ranging from $22.78 to $25.51
