Lifeguards / Instructors (Seasonal)

The Town of Blackfalds is accepting applications for Life Guards and Instructors to work at the Outdoor Aquatic Centre.

Our Lifeguards are responsible for the safety of the guests of the Aquatic Centre. Lifeguards provide a positive, fun, and safe experience by ensuring everyone follows the Aquatic Centre policies and procedures. Lifeguards will provide first aid as necessary, and complete administrative and maintenance duties related to the position. 

Our Swim Instructors are responsible for delivering quality swim instruction and proper evaluation for all levels of the Swim for Life Program. Swim Instructors are responsible for the safety supervision of guests participating in swim lessons and for all applicable administration.

 Position Requirements:

  • Lifeguarding - Assist other lifeguards as required.
    • Maintain  a safe  aquatic  setting,  removing all hazards to public and staff.
    • Help evaluate guard positions & rotations.
    • Lifeguard as required.
    • Educate the public on aquatic policies as required.
    • Provide first aid as required.
  • Swim Instruction - Instruct as required.
    • Assist other instructors as required.

Administration - Ensure all checklists are completed each day.

    • Complete inspections as required.
    • Communicate with the Aquatic Coordinator on daily ongoings of the Aquatic Centre.
    • Complete inventories as required and keep the Aquatic Coordinator updated on any supplies required.
    • Complete all lesson administrative work as required.
    • Follow and participate in all safety practices and provincial legislation.

Education and Experience:

  • National Lifeguard - Pool
  • Intermediate First Aid with CPR "C" and AED 
  • Lifesaving Swim Instructor

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be 16 years of age - lifeguard.
  • Must be 15 years of age - instructor.
  • Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check (16+) / Intervention Record Check (18+).

Physical Demands

  • Be physically able to stand/walk for extended periods at a time outside in various weather situations.
  • Physically fit to perform rescue techniques when required.
  • Be able to remain in a wet atmosphere for extended periods of time.

Work Environment

  • Outside environment with the expectation to work in various weather conditions.
  • Very dynamic work environment.
  • Various noise levels exist within the work environment.
  • Working with the public, there could be a potential risk of dealing with a difficult facility patron.

 

The hourly wage range is $18.81 / hour to $21.18 / hour.
